Honoring Mother's Day: Suffolk County House of Correction PHP Support Group for Women
Parenting is a journey filled with challenges, and for some, the journey takes a detour through the Suffolk County House of Correction. While behind bars, mothers face unique challenges in maintaining connections with their children, and that's where Parents Helping Parents (PHP) steps in. Our support group offers a non-judgmental space for these mothers to share, connect, and find solace amidst their circumstances.
About the Parent Support Group for Women at the House of Correction
Located within the Suffolk County House of Correction, our PHP support group for mothers caters to both detained and sentenced inmates, offering a calm sanctuary where they can express their feelings about parenting, relationships, and family. Our group is non-judgmental, supportive, and strictly confidential, focusing on fostering positive identities as parents rather than teaching parenting skills.
We provide hands-on activities like card-making, journal decorating, and coloring, allowing these mothers to connect with their children through tangible tokens of love. As they share experiences and craft memories, trust blossoms among participants, strengthening their resolve to stay connected with their children, no matter the circumstances.
Why Your Support Matters
Many of these mothers are facing uncertain futures, battling addiction, mental illness, or coping with the aftermath of crimes often born from desperation. While their paths to jail may vary, their love for their children remains constant. Our group offers them the tools to maintain that love, even from afar.
To continue offering these valuable programs, we need your support. We are seeking donations to cover the costs of crafting supplies or contributions towards items from our Amazon Wish List. Your donation will directly benefit these mothers, providing them with the means to create heartfelt crafts and maintain connections with their children.
